Frames and Slicings for Angular Momentum in Post-Minkowski Scattering

When two bodies scatter, the “mass moment” carried off by radiation has seemed not to match the change in the bodies themselves. This paper shows that choosing the right time slices and reference frames brings every known result into agreement, and conjectures a balance law that holds to all orders.

Electromagnetic Scoot

Gravitational scattering shifts a system’s center of mass. This paper shows the same thing happens when charged particles scatter in flat spacetime, with the shift balanced by an opposite one stored in the electromagnetic field, like a person scooting forward across the floor.

Self-force Effects in Post-Minkowskian Scattering

A particle passing far from a star is nudged by its own field as well as the star’s. This paper calculates that self-force for scalar, electromagnetic and gravitational fields, and uses it to give a complete, explicit solution to two-body gravitational scattering at second post-Minkowskian order.
